May have just destroyed my TV engine :-(

I made a stupid and likely very costly error this afternoon. I have a 2013 Ford 6.7 Diesel. About a week ago, I needed to top of the Diesel Exhaust fluid before a long trip. I bought a 2.5 Gallon container and poured it into the DEF port. However, there were still 3-4 cups of DEF in the container and the truck was full.

I put the remainder in the garage and took our trip. I put on about 500 miles this week, so this afternoon, I though I'd put the rest of the DEF in the truck. I have NO idea why I did it, but I opened up the diesel cap and poured the remainder of the DEF in the diesel fuel. I didn't realize what I'd done until I'd driven about 4 miles and the "Water in Fuel" light came on. It dawned on me what I'd done.

After researching many forums, in all likelihood the engine is now toast, and the cost will be somewhere around $10-12K to get it fixed. I'm sick to my stomach from the guilt this is causing. In addition, we have a big family camping outing on april the 9th that I'm likely going to have to cancel because I won't have a TV to pull the fiver to it.

I'm sick, sick, sick of the stupid error I made.

This chain of posts has run it's useful life, and it has degraded into finger pointing, name calling, etc. I've asked the moderator to close it. In the mean-time, as the OP, I'd appreciate it if no more posts were added to the conversation..

I agree, I remember when Rick was a Ford fan but after months of bashing it seems he has lost some creditability. Yes I think he got a raw deal but I really don't know both sides of the story. I don't mind him bashing Ford but when he insults Ford or any other brand owners now he is taking it to far.
The newbies can be excused. They don't know what they don't know.

Ric used to be the most ardent Ford supporter on the net. And this was after owning a problem 6.0!!

He and I used to get into some very heated debates over which truck was better. You can do some old searching for interesting reading. Here and on FTE.

When he first reported his problem, I was silent.
I like to debate, but not kick someone when they are down. My first response to Ric was of the nature that the truth is that any of us can be walking in his shoes tomorrow. No matter the brand. A huge corporation can crush any of us like a bug.

So I don't blame Ric one bit for telling his story. It is the only defense we consumers have to hopefully at least make the corporations think about the consequences of mistreating their customers

Ric and I have become better friends since this shameful event, even talking on the phone..

But I still wish that this had never happened, and we were still telling each other how full of it they were.

Believe me, if I had a $12 repair bill on a 2 year old truck I'd be ragging all over Cummins or Ram.

Mine was $11K, and the truck was only 9 months old! But of course, I'm the one who poisoned it with DEF, so it clearly wasn't Ford's fault.

It's not Fords fault and it's not everyone elses fault either. This is just one example of why I hate how insurance companies work. People messing up the engine because of a mistake and other people do it too and then turn it in on insurance then all the people that have these trucks have to pay higher rates. Enjoy the check I sent you.

...yep...right...just open minded people who make comments without regard to facts...sort of like the rewriting of history...it has been explained multiple times as to how I determined the amount of water that a 6.7 DFCM will hold before the light comes on...it had nothing to do with any findings of water in my fuel system...

if one desires to rise to the challenge to defend Ford's reprehensible behavior in this event, they need to put down the Blue Koolaid and spend some time developing a cohesive argument...otherwise refutation is a simple task...if you had taken a moment to actually read the two exchanges, you would have seen that his assumption was soundly refuted by fact...or is the fact that I have the original DFCM too difficult to comprehend????...but drink on...it's good stuff...

So Rick, it sounds like your Ford dealer was correct. It was the bad load of diesel with water in it that caused the fuel system to fail.

no...there was never any water...see...if you have the shameful event...all the parts in the fuel system are trashed and replaced with new...that left me with the OEM DFCM as part of the pile...I took the opportunity to further my knowledge of the shortcomings of the 6.7 Ford. I used a graduated cylinder to fill the old DFCM until the level reached the sensor switch...just under 8 ounces...I needed to do this because FOMOCO said I had to prove there was never a WIF light...seeing that the fraudulent used water bottle the crooked first dealer fabricated as "evidence" only had less than 2 ounces of water in it...it was just another wicked turn taken by an uncaring manufacturer as they screwed over a lifetime customer...

Every now and then, someone here always tries to take a comment made by me and twist it around into some ammunition for the Blue KoolAid crowd to use to attempt to discredit the Shameful Event reporting...I know that there is a lot of info out there regarding the event but all the facts have been presented...but there remains a lot of Blue koolaid out here...enjoy...
