My Custom Travel Trailer Build - The latest...
Hi everyone....
I have been receiving a lot of emails from you guys and so I thought I would post an update on my travel trailer building plans. I have spoken with 2 professional RV builders and here is where things stand;
- For those of you considering having a travel trailer custom built something like this takes 8-10 weeks to build. (There’s a 2-3 month waiting list at both places.)
- I am going to go with (2) 5200lb axles. (The base trailer without any customization is about 3200lbs)
- While the initial plan called for this trailer to be built from a cargo trailer one of the RV builders is suggesting that he can build it completely from the ground up and although finished it might look like it was from a cargo trailer it’s not.
- I am considering changing the exterior to a V-Nose design to take advantage of the aerodynamic properties. Also by creating a small vented compartment at the front of the vehicle I could possibly secure my batteries in there.
- I am considering a 3-way refrigerator now in place of the (compact residential style ac model w/inverter) to allow for propane use when on the road.
- The term for building a trailer above the wheel wells in the RV industry is called a “deck over.”
If you have not seen my travel trailer plans please check them out: TRAILER BUILD
I would greatly appreciate any constructive feedback (good or bad) you can provide. Thanks -Darla
