Need rental recommendation

My 2015 3500HD Chevy 8ft bed is out of commission for a while - gotta load the camper & drag the boat on a trip to lake powell in a few days (800 mile round trip).

Thinking of renting a 1-ton but not sure how best to tie down the camper ... have a good rubber mat for the bed but gotta believe no rental with torklifts :) ... would ratchet straps work? Thanks.
  • I just make things work without spending the money they want for TC accessories..

On my old F-250 I put the old Happijack button in the stake pocket and gave it a hefty twist..Tied it to the rear camper tie down with chain and turnbuckle with the banana swimming aid(laughing) to keep it from rubbing on the truck.

Worked for years up and down Idaho mountain roads without issue...I am not recommending that to anyone, just showing what worked for me..

If you look close you can see how it worked for me.

Ratchet straps will work but I would go with stake pocket tie downs and not drill the holes..I try to keep them around just to bring truck campers home or for loaners.

I never did put tie downs on my older lance/F-250,just tied them to the stake pockets with turnbuckle's and chain...Worked in Idaho's back country very well without issue.

In the old days, stake pocket tie downs were the to go method for most.

    Good luck.
  • that's what my wife suggested ... a hotel, but bring along the straps ... just in case ... :C
  • Capri Grande - 2200# loaded - I use torklift fast guns - 4-jack mount
  • How big is your TC?
Check Walmart thread for strapping alternatives :D
