Needing new tires

Folks, just went and got my tires balanced and rotated, too long between, and was looking for some tires to place the Michelin 265/70/R18 LYX M/S that are on it. Although they look good and perform pretty well, they look to me like they are wearing more than they should be with less than 25,000 miles on them. What would you recommend for a good tire to carry my 2500HD GMC crew-cab and an HT Jayco 26.5 RLS FW? I have a quote for some Firestone Transforce H/Ts but know nothing about them. Any help would be much appreciated.

Those Transforce tires came stock on my Ram, and they are a terrible tire. I hope they wear fast so I can get some decent tires on it.

I personally like Cooper, Toyo and BFG. I'm leaning toward Toyo Open Country AT2 when I do swap in new tires/wheels, but I'm still considering the Cooper AT3, Cooper ST Maxx, and BFG AT/KO2. It's important to me to have tires that perform well both on and off road, and the Transforce HTs are woefully inadequate in the latter category. They're also pretty poor on snow, ice and even struggle with wet traction.
  • I just had a new set of tires installed a couple of weeks ago and decided to go with the Goodyear AT Adventure E rated tires rated for 60k miles. My previous tires was BF Goodrich AT2 and the Goodyear's have a much better softer ride and fuel mileage appears to be the same as the factory Michelins and the BF Goodrich's.

Just a fyi the Toyo's Open Country AT's have a much wider tread and will pick up rocks really bad and that could be an issue with the front of your camper and boat.
  • I've been stuck on Duravis 700 HD's cause they wear like granite, don't squirm when towing and have been nearly as quiet as others. Got 85k on the first set and now @ 40k, this set looks like they'll go just as long.
  • Don't quite understand your concern.
Are the Michelins worn to the min. tread depth and need replacing?
If not, I would take the truck to a Michelin dealer and seek their
help before laying out the money for any brand of new tire.
  • Took the Michelins to a dealer last fall and he said there was plenty of tread left but the tires look like they are very much worn down. I'll drive them this spring and, probably, summer before making a decision. I like the Michelins, but hate the pricing, but after looking on-line, their prices don't look way far out of line.
