Coming home from a camping trip at our local state park hubby was pulling the camper and coming up onto a ramp from another road and was waiting to merge and 2 vehicles slowed down to allow hubby to come into the lane when some lady in a older dodge ram 3500 swerved to avoid the slower vehicle and went onto the shoulder and hit the corner of the camper. it is a 2013 and we only have had it out 5 times. Anyone have an accident in their camper, can this be fixed?

I was towing with a 98k3500 and wrecked it. Wacky NJ roads with 50mph speed limits and valley lights. I told my wife that I guarantee we will get into an accident if we don't maintain 40mph or less. Sure enough heavy rain, here comes a green light, cars pass me on the right and left, and what's sitting at the green, a stalled out chevy Yukon. Slid slowly into the back of the Tahoe, destroyed $3k worth of mountain bikes, and totaled out the $10500 crew cab.

got the police report back today and Thanks God they have insurance, she was driving her boyfriends truck and she was charged with Failure to control her vehicle. We took the camper to the body shop today and I am calling her boyfriends insurance tomorrow to get them to cover the loss of use and Depreciated value claim and to get his truck checked out also

I would make sure the insurance check is made out to me and not the repair facility. Then when you endorse the check write "partial settlement" and then sign your name. This was something I learned back in college in Business Law 101. This leaves the door open for the possibility of more dollars just in case something is found during the repairs.

Please post your experience with them once it is done. I'd like to have someplace to file away if I need repairs done.

Especially since the trailer is so new make sure that your insurance company doesn't try and use aftermarket or used parts. When the DW's car was hit I had an insurance company try and replace my nice rigid brand hitch with something sourced out of JC Whitney that was about half the cost. My body shop guy had never seen an adjuster try that before. Plus they tried to charge me part of teh cost f an exhaust system due to it being better than the one their client had smashed with their driveshaft when it fell off their truck. In MN that was illegal to charge betterment. Find a good repair shop and insist on new parts.

We bought a new 2008 Sunset trails, and on our very first trip out to make sure everything works ,we got hit. We were in a camp ground and the guy in the spot acrossed from us was hooking up his tow vehicle and left it in neutral. It rolled across the camp ground and slammed into our trailer. It drove our trailer4 feet side ways and put a nice dent right at floor level. Good thing he had insurance but kinda took the thrill out of a new camper.

Im so sorry this happened to you. I feel your pain. This past fall as we were coming home from a camping trip a deer jump a truck in the oncoming lane and slammed into the side of our fifth wheel.Putting a pretty good size hole in our camper. We were traveling at 65 mph. Took it to our dealer and our insurance paid for it less our deductable. Make sure though before you accept the repair to check the work. The repair was not acceptable to us and it was uneven. Not smooth.

So they redid the repair and now its good as new.

Don't think the extended warranty will have anything to do with the accident. As long as your insurance and the other insurance companies are involved you will be OK. Like others said, sometimes there is hidden damage, don't accept a final check until the unit is completely repaired, even after that something could crop up. Too bad you are missing out on prime camping season. Good luck.

You are taking the best route. A neighbor's tree fell our friend's 3 month old unit. They did NOT file with their own insurance company and regret it today! Their unit should have been totaled but he was convinced by the repair shop and the other insurance company it would be good as new and it is not!

Also since you will have your unit out of service during the critical warranty period, I would see what it would cost to have the warranty extended by the manufacturer and bill it to the insurance company.

we have an extended warranty on it, should I contact them to let them know of the accident?

Be sure you don't let your insurance company take shortcuts... They will want to negotiate with the repair shop... If its broken. It gets fixed to factory or better standard.. No shortcuts with labor or materials..

My mom has GMAC. They used a magical spell and conjured a check and said that's all they were paying. They gave her the check to give to the repair shop and told her the rest would be out of pocket!!!! Oh no... I flipped. I called the insurance co. And let them have it.. Needless to say. I ran that guy up a flagpole. Had to get his boss to get his mind right. The $5k check wasn't enough. It was short $900. I had them invoice. I submitted it. And sent them a calculation for the amount my mom has paid in annual fees for the last 15yrs. ( she has never had an accident. Ever... She is 63.

There was no nonsense after that. They cut the check. Paid the repair shop... Reassigned my mom a new agent for her account...

Be on top of it.. All the way.

with advice from our laywer we are going through our insurance company and paying our 250.00 deductible which we will get back later and it will speed up the process too. Found a local repair shop which services 3 area rv dealers so we are taking there tomorrow for estimate and repair, our insurance agent will meet there and discuss with the body place what needs to be fixed since they don't just cut a check.Hope to get it back in 3-4 weeks they said
