After mulling it over, I took the plunge and traded in the 2013 Sierra 1500 for a Chevy 2500HD gasser (and you diesel boys can save it, it's also my daily driver and the 8K price difference will buy a lot of gas:)). Towing mirrors, integrated brake controller (kept the tekonsha just in case), 2800 lb payload, all the modern features. Anybody need a pair of snap on towing mirrors for the 2009-2013 chevy/gmc trucks? I cannot believe what they gave on trade for the old truck. I figured why beat up the lightweight and destroy its trade in value when I can cash in the equity and use it as a large downstroke on a truck that will handle whatever I might throw at it.Not sure how they make money on the trade, but that gets filed under "not my problem." Anyway, picking the beast up tonight and look forward to many years of use. At my age it is probably the last truck I will be buying. Rig photo to follow.

Don't worry, they are not losing money on your trade. Used pickup trucks are in high demand right now, especially late model ones with relatively low mileage.When I bought my 1500 last year you could get a brand new truck with 10 miles on it for less than a 2-year-old truck with 25,000 miles on it. In January! A no-brainer if you ask me. Yet, there are apparently people who will pay those outrageous, near-new prices for a used truck because they think they are saving money! Dealers love to see these people walk up because they won't even price out a new truck to see how much the dealer will knock off list price.Keep an eye on the ads for that dealer and see how much he's asking for your old truck.

You will like the 2500HD 6.0, what year did you get?

Thanks,but I just ordered Raptor 7" boards. The Amp Research ones are cool but a little more than I want to spend just now. Maybe when I am having trouble hopping in as time takes it toll, but we are not quite there yet.

I had a 2015 3500, CC, 6.0L, I pulled the heck out it and really liked the truck. The nonpulling mpg, I thought was reasonable about 14 maybe 15 at times. The downside as with all gas engines when you put a trailer on it, the mileage falls off a cliff. I pulled up to 31K combined, and it did it just fine, even going up and down our passes here. I could easily get south of 5 mpg but even my D/max trucks don't get a lot better pulling the same grades. I traded out of the 6.0 because another truck went down and we had to get a diesel to replace it and otherwise I would have kept it. That was my second HD GM 6.0 (had a 2012 as well). The common complaint about gas trucks is their resale, but I came out very well on both of my gas HD's on resale. I would absolutely buy another one if I needed to pull heavy on occasion.

You're going to love this one on the road ... same truck here, and also added the step-bars. Tall truck but handles well. Gas mileage, well, it's a HD truck, so it works (altho we get 10.7 hauling, and 16 empty). We didn't buy it for fuel efficiency. We bought a Buick Encore (30 mpg) for that -

OP here. Got the truck and I love it. A little tall and I got to get running boards for the wife.

But the deal was that I bought new a 2013 Sierra 1500 for 28K (all kinds of rebates and deals when they closed that model run for the big reboot on 2014), and they offered me 24.5K 3 years later in trade. I owed about 8K on, and that made for a 16.5 downstroke. It would have been insane not to buy the thing. Heck, my monthly payment is just a little more and I got a truck that won;t be flinching when the trailer is hooked on. Only one snag: I had to get a new hitch shank cuz this one is 4 inches higher at the receiver.

I've got a 2002 GMC 2500HD 8.1 large block gasser with 105,000 miles on it and I'm getting ready to put some Bilstein 5100s on it. It finally got to where over the past few years the originals were not dampening enough and my large 5'er would start to porpoise. I put some heavy duty gas shocks on my previous truck and they made it ride like a truck. Well, at any rate, the ride was much different, but not in a good way. That's part of the reason I waited so long, I liked the way the truck rode, and I didn't want to ruin it.

Hey guys, I put my Bilstiens on at 70K, the originals were shot, I have the Z71 package and the originals I believe were GM. They were blue in color though. I am sure you will like the 2016 style. I really like the saw blade style rims on the higher end trucks. To bad they don't fit the 2009 and down unless you use adapters cause the bolt pattern is different. I also did the EFI live tune to my truck and really like it. No other improvements, just a really good solid truck. I have 80K on it now, and expect many, many more miles out of it... And it gets babied... trust me, clean as new and I probably over maintain it..lol
