New Maxxis yesterday- not so sure

Heck, what regular Joe has nitrogen to inflate their tires? And none of the gas stations I use when home has nitrogen. MAY be a good idea but not yet practical.

Trailer tires should always be inflated tot he pressure on the sidewall, regardless of what is put in them.

Thank you to everyone for your responses. I will run them at 65psi as most suggest as I think we are typically on the heavier side with all our stuff for 2-3 weeks. I will fill with regular air from my compressor as I don't happen to have the ability to add nitrogen. I have sent an email to that manager at the tire shop letting him know my concerns. Hopefully the next family gets appropriate service.

Good to know I can order them online. I will definitely look into that next time as I do prefer my local small town shop. Can't wait for our next outing.

Anytime they start bragging about nitrogen you know the rest is unfounded.

This answer; the lower psi is great if you're riding in the trailer for "comfort", but is also an excellent way to destroy your tires!

That's exactly why i make it a point to tell anyone doing any work on my trailer tires exactly what pressure I want them aired up to. Most young dumb tire tech don't understand the requirements for trailer tires.

Not a comment on the tire pressure but there is no need to drive 160 km to a dealer that handles Maxxis. You can order them on line, probably cheaper, shipping is free and get them mounted locally. Last set of tires I purchased on line from Quebec (Quatro Tires) and they arrived two day later no charge. Driver even put them into my garage for me. Got them mounted a couple of days later locally.

The only reason to stop at 65 is because you did not specify load range E that takes 80 psi.
Yes definitely go 65 psi cold. That is before you roll and before the sun is on them.
Otherwise check your GVWR sticker.

From Roger Marble's RV Tire Safety blog, "As a tire engineer I suggest that people select an inflation pressure that will provide at least 15 percent extra load capacity over the heaviest loaded tire on an axle" and "If you have a multi-Axle trailer you should be running the pressure on the tire sidewall.". There is a LOT of great info. on his blog.

Yes, as mentioned, always run the tires at the sidewall max. psi. Would be a good idea to take a run through a scale and determine the TT's GVW (while there can also get TW and TV's actual payload capacity). An estimated GVW of 8,000 is realistic and would be a payload of about 1500 lbs which would be around "normal" but depends on any kids, pets and in-laws and stuff needed for them that would be in the trailer. The payload in our 29' TT is well under 1K lbs for two adults and a dog. You can sometimes reduce psi based on actual load on tires but higher reserve load capacity is a good thing plus the TT doesn't need a softer ride.

So if your TT does indeed weigh around 8K lbs and you subtract the TW of say 12 percent, the actual weight on the tires would be 6800 lbs on a total max. tire rating of 10,160 lbs (at max. psi) for a reserve load capacity of over 30 percent which is very good. Unless you load your TT to the GVWR max. and were heavy on one side you should be fine as long as the tires are kept at 65 psi (cold @ ambient temp.). Our TT comes standard with LRC tires and we upgraded to LRD, have over 30 percent reserve capacity and have never had issues.

Run 65 psi and you are *very* good to go. Happy camping. :)
