Maxxis Tires Report
Periodically someone asks about running ST tires on heavier fivers so I thought I would post my experience.
I fulltime and I have a Heartland Bighorn with a GVWR of 14,000 pounds.
My fiver came with wonderful Towmax tires and the first one blew exactly one year after I took delivery. I had hoped to use them for my first full year of traveling and then replace them, but things didn't exactly turn out that way. I replaced all 4 of them with Maxxis M8008, LR-E, size 235/80R16 when that first one let go. The tire load limit for the Maxxis tires is 3,420 pounds each at 80 psi.
I just finished my third year of traveling with them on my trailer, totaling about 20,000 miles. They spent one winter outside Phoenix and two in south Florida. I do not cover them. I have driven across the desert in California and throughout the Midwest in summer (100+ degrees in Mo. last year !). I run about 60 mph and keep them aired up to 80 psi.
I have had no flats, no blow-outs, no problems at all. Completely uneventful.
There are very few ST tires that I would even consider buying, but I will buy Maxxis again with no qualms.
I am not trying to reignite the ST vs LT tires argument, so let's not do that please. My only point to this is to post MY REAL WORLD EXPERIENCE with Maxxis tires. Every once in a while someone will ask about them so I hope this helps.
I'll post another update at the end of my travels in 2017.
