New Toy! I decided to downsize

So, I'm on my mini-snowbird tour. Visit with friends in Rio Rancho NM-Check. Spend quality time with old college roommate in Phoenix-Check. Time to move on to Escapees North Ranch in Congress for my third and final planned stop. But--its only 0830-can't arrive too early. Wait--there's a FREE RV show over at Cardinals Stadium a few miles east. Can't hurt to look. I looked. I touched. I spoke with salesman. I test drove. I bought.

Got an awesome deal on a Winnebago View 24M on the Mercedes/Sprinter chassis. I have thoroughly enjoyed the floorplan of the Rockwood, but--34 foot seems to double whenever it comes time to back it into a campsite. Wind resistance determines road speed way more than any speed limit. Truck has 136K miles on it. Rockwood is beginning to show it's age. Prolly time to do something different.

I have looked at the View for a couple of years, but at list price of 125-130k, I usually just walked past. At this show, they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. Traded in Rocky, keeping Titan. I take delivery this weekend.
  • Unfortunately, Titan is too heavy to be a toad (5000# max--maybe less depending on load). Concept is find a utility trailer and bring my new Softtail along for adventures. The Suzuki GZ250 has served me well--I have already ridden it over 300 miles on this trip. Prolly taking up to Prescott tomorrow (from Escapees North Ranch in Congress). Great for backroads and some twisties (like AZ 89). At 60 mph max though, it sometimes gets dangerous in traffic. My next challenge then will be how to get both View and Titan home. Hmmm...
  • Congrats! Let us know how you find the difference between driving the truck and towing the trailer and "driving the trailer and towing the truck". Will be interesting to hear due to the sizes of your truck, trailer, and motorhome (many folks go from a truck & trailer to a motorhome & car so it's a bit different).

I loved switching from the SUV & trailer to motorhome only - while hitching didn't take that long, it really is nice not having to do it at all.
  • Congrats! Those View's are really nice. Have fun on the new Motorhome lifestyle :D

    Thanks!
