I love a hot rod diesel pickup as much as anyone, but in general/historically diesel don't = fast anyway.
14sec 1ton pickups is just a by product/added benefit of being able to buy a light duty truck that can have insane power with virtually zero modifications. And it counts for only a minute amount of the overall Diesel engine applications across the board.

Agreed you can make them very fast, but a 9sec pro street drag truck is about as far a departure from the intent of the already off topic discussion as you can get.
I know the ISB will hold up to huge power on a stock bottom end, but your neighbor could not have had a totally stock long block.
At the very very least, valve springs were upgraded. And you can't stuff that much air/fuel through with a stock cam either.
Stock short block I might believe, but even that's real suspect. Compression ratio would need to be lower to, to fit the air fuel charge at that kind of power.

NO one else is buying them. Up until recently Cummins was the engine in the F650/750. Cummins in used in many other applications as a Medium Duty engine.

The Cummins Engine plant in Columbus, IN (CMEP) for the 2017 Model Year will be ONLY producing the 6.7 for the RAM trucks. The other 6.7 applications will be produced in another plant. That tells me the Cummins RAM combo is ramping up for stronger future sales.

Just wanted to note that the JLTV is actually being built by Oshkosh. It's empty weight seems to be 15,000 lbs with upper payloads of 5,000 lbs. Thing is, these vehicles have tons of configurations, who knows what they'll rate it to tow depending on configuration. But the mass itself puts it well into the medium duty truck range (Well beyond an F-450 + payload). The **** thing is a beast, much bigger than the HMMWV. Lots of these JLTV's will be purchased, so GM has a pretty sweet deal here. I sincerely hoping they're using something stronger than the Allison 1000 transmission, hopefully a 3000 at minimum. All I know is that it's an Allison transmission backing the engine.

Yeah not the smartest move to use that c rap bag 6.2/6.5 in the Hummers. I'd of took a good bicycle over that engine in Iraq based on my exp with them!
But the Dmax has been med duty in the class 6 GM trucks for many years.
Speaks volumes for the 6.7 Pstroke if Ferd is finally using that engine in med duty apps.

Ive seen some Dmax powered boats, but not sure there's any mass production of the Dirty max for marine use.
They make killer wakeboard boat motors in the bigger boats.

Bottom line, stock for stock, the Dmax and Pstroke will beat a Ram Cummins in a drag race like is red headed step child, but it takes longer to get the big iron movin.

My 07 in my sig couldn't see the tail lights of my LB7, similar tunes, in a 1/4 mile, but the big C don't take kindly to being speed shifted. Auto trans would make it a better race but still no competition.
That's why you see more V8 trucks at the drag races and more cummins at the truck pulls.....different engines.
Not a fan of the complexity of any of the new engines but they're all pretty darn reliable and powerful.....but I can still do injectors on a new Cummins with a set of hand tools and a cheapo tq wrench......and have it back on the road that afternoon.
