Nicely Done Converted Cargo Trailer

Community Alumni

I ran across this article while reading through Jalopnik. This guy originally started out with a horse trailer that he converted, but that was destroyed in hurricane Irene. So he then built this 16ft beauty. He's packed quite a bit of quality and ingenuity in this tiny space. I know there were a few posts from some asking about converting cargo trailers or building you own recently. Hopefully this helps out.

I can't read the type but it looks like he has provisioned one of the skylights as an emergency exit.

There's a lot of craftsmanship in the build. I wonder why he didn't build on a slightly longer platform, say 20'? I guess the smaller size met his needs.

He has a background in yachting design and building so he leans a lot towards that. There's normally very few windows in a boat's berth so it's not so strange to him. He does have a couple of sky lights and LEDs though. No windows also allows for more wall space and lets him blend in with the crowd so to speak. He can hit pretty much any parking lot or truck stop without any problems. No body would suspect that there's a guy and a rottweiler sleeping in that trailer. Someone did point out that it could make him a target for thieves who think the trailer is full of tools, but I think that rottweiler would take care of that lol. He built this to be a traveling office, hotel, and test bed for products (solar power management) his company provides.

I wonder if he changed the walk-through door mechanism. If the picture of the exterior of the trailer is the finished the product, then it doesn't look like it. Those are locked from the outside.

I guess he can as this TT is very stealth, but Walmart over a CG?

A buddy converted a horse trailer. He got tired of fighting the inadequate tires and suspension on his fifth wheel trailer. That is where many manufacturers really cheap out.

Agree on the narrow and general size, but Holy Cow! He certainly made the most of every square inch....several times with the same inch. I would need a couple of windows - personal opinion - but he would have lost a lot of needed space. Beautiful workmanship and great use of technology.
