Nitrogen Filled Tires

Hello all, from a first-time post-er.

We've just made the leap up to a small TT after 16 years as popupers. Our new-to-us rig claims to have nitrogen-filled tires. Sounds fine to me. But as an obsessive tire-pressure-checker, I'm wondering how I'm going to keep my tires at the proper pressure. If I add compressed air am I going to compromise the nitrogen? Are there ways a person can add nitrogen instead of compressed air?

Thanks!

(I'll have more questions too.)

It's just Mrs. SpeakEasy and me now (empty-nesters). But we can choose from among 7 grandchildren to drag along with us!

I fill mine with helium. My rig just seems to float down the highway.

Hi Speak - Welcome to the forum and congratulations on the new rig. Like you, my first experience with nitrogen-filled tires raised a lot of questions in my mind too. I had bought a vette and the salesman pointed out the nitrogen filled tires. It was all new to me so I asked the guy that worked in the tire shop at the dealership and he told me to not worry about it. If the tires needed air, just put air in. Enjoy your TT and best wishes.
Times fun when you're having flies!

For previous posts search this Forum for `tires' then search the results for `nitrogen'. The answer must be there.

Thanks for the welcome, Dick. As I said, it's my first post. I just discovered this forum, and I just discovered by reading my rig's documentation that there were such a thing as nitrogen tires. It seemed like a cool idea to ask you folks about it, since it was something new to me.

I'll be sure to do my research before asking from now on.

Sorry to have troubled you.

Best to just ignore posts like that. Eventually they will just give up. 😉

I'm a chemist myself, but...in my scan of Flapper's article, the "chemists" didn't point out the main advantage, in that nitrogen doesn't leak out at the same rate as oxygen does, so you spend less time topping off your tires and that accuracy will improve overall mileage. Not enough to get me renting a N2 tank for though, LOL.

Interesting take on the N2 debate:

But, for regular use, if not a race car or an aircraft....doesn't seem to be an advantage.....

Hey Bob! Thanks for the tip about my profile. I had put in a bunch of information, but it wasn't (isn't?) showing. Still learning my way around this forum.

Welcome to the forum. Yes, you can carry a bottle of nitrogen to fill the tires.
But, as you now know, it's a waste of money. Get a good portable air compressor to quench your obsession. 🙂

Enjoy your travels and, don't hesitate to ask questions on the forum.

Appreciate your welcome, gbopp! Already have the compressor and have found it very useful over the years. I most likely would have used it to keep my tires up to snuff, even without asking here, but I thought it would be interesting to hear others' thoughts on this.

Yes, and as you spend more time on this forum, you find some very helpful replies and to ignore obnoxious posts. 😉

Thanks, 3oaks. There are obnoxious posters on all forums. I get that.
