Open Range slide issue

So, I heard a pop up around the slide motor, and now when I’m bringing it in, it jumps about every 2 seconds. Thinking the gearbox is going. Saw a video on YouTube, wondering if anyone has actually done one with success or failure.
  • It's the gearbox, almost guaranteed. You should belong to the Open Range owners forum. Someone on there just changed theirs yesterday. 2016 is the peak year for failures, since they redesigned the gearbox in 2015 and that turned into a disaster. It took a couple years for BAL to get it right. The new replacements seem to be ok.
Dyersrv.com is usually the best place to buy. R25076. I have the part number memorized for some reason.....

Edit: I've done 2 of them and if you can turn a wrench it's easy. Put the slide halfway out, support it outside. Remove the wood trim, and like mentioned above, mark the chains and cable adjustments with Whiteout and put everything back in exactly the same position when done.
Watching the YouTube videos helps a lot.

It's usually just a couple of screws on interior trim to access motor.
Inspect, could be as simple as loose chain.

Thanks, I’ll check that as well.

The popping you hear is either the gear teeth breaking or the chain slipping on the missing teeth. You will need to change out the gear motor. I had to have the main slide motor changed two years ago. You could do it yourself via YouTube. The tech that changed mine said just make sure you mark the chain where the teeth sit to make sure it is set exactly the way it should. He suggested using white-out. I have an extra motor in case it goes out where i can't get a tech. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I’m hearing quite a few of these stories. Spare gearbox might be a good idea for the future.
