Opinions on this Starcraft Hybrid

Hi all, I am new to this forum and hope that this is an appropriate question.

I have always liked the idea of the hybrid TTs because of getting more space out of a smaller box.

Its a 2003 Starcraft 21RB for $3500 at a car dealership. It evidently has a rebuilt title due to a water leak in the roof, which has been repaired. There is a brown slightly soft spot in the corner of the ceiling tile because of this leak.

Floor seems solid and they assured me that it had not been in an accident. Everything else looks really nice and clean.

Opinions?

Suggestions on any thing else to look at regarding the trailer
  • Well, I'm still in my 2003 TT that I bought brand new in 2002... No leaks ever, and that's because I've maintained it over the years, keep it covered during the winter, etc..

Anyway, I can't see myself buying a new one anytime soon.. (too many $$ compared to what I paid for my rig).

I think you should be able to find something else out there that's not had a leaking issue for not a lot more $$ and you'll be much happier in the end I think..

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the advice guys

    1) I don't know enough to disagree :)

    2) No to having owned RVs, TT or Hybrids. I have always tent camped including 18 nights in the Grand Canyon. Therefore a pop up would be a big upgrade and a hybrid a HUGE upgrade! LOL

    3) What I really want is a professionally restored 1960s 25-28' Airstream. As soon as I find one for 5k, I am on it! Or I win the lottery. The second being more likely

    4) I could post some photos if needed, but I felt like a leaking roof/title/price either said YES! or NO!!!! I feel like general consensus is NO!!!

The pictures show the camper looks really nice in general. Has some delamination of the corner of the interior ceiling. No picture of roof. Walls seemed solid, floor seemed solid. and no smells.

    5) I had offered 2500. For that price, at worst, I could probably get at least get a season or two and use the guts for a conversion or restoration project later on.

Anyway, thank you for the advice. I have always negatives about the quality of modern built TTs and had looked at doing a cargo trailer conversion. I really like the idea of metal and aluminum construction, but I don't have that kind of time. Regardless, you still see alot of 70s 80s and 90s TTS on the road still so I thought I would consider some built in the 2000s
  • i think that what everyone's trying to say is that:

    1. water damage and salvage title. WHO did the repair?
    2. being sold by an auto dealership, NOT a RV dealership. how do they know it wasn't in an accident?
    3. it's a 15 year old hybrid. unless it was well taken care of, that's near the end of a hybrid's lifetime.
    4. any water damage is likely to have gone to other places, other than just the roof. like the walls. did you check for any delam?
  • Offer them $2k and see what they do? If they take it, you might want to budget that extra $1.5k and then some.. ;)

Otherwise, have you owned an RV before? Do you know if the rest of the systems actually work? And just not "looks really nice and clean"?

Not trying to be an ass here... Just we (I) have no idea what you are looking at without at least a pic or two..

  • I keep hearing of the StarCraft quality and while there may be repairs necessary in the future, I thought it may be worthwhile do to the low entry price. I see a lot of older campers selling for that much or more.

I am not arguing, just explaining my line of thought. Thank you for the advice.
  • Let's see...14 years old, car dealer selling...who knows what about RVs? rebuilt title by whom? Leaking with a soft spot, $3,500, assured never been in an accident...oh my! If you get to enjoy this RV for a year you'll be lucky...at almost $300 per month.
