Ordered a 2015 F150 Lariat — almost

I ordered a 2015 F150 Lariat with 3.5 eco-boost and 3.73 locking rear axle for maximum payload and towing capacity. On a 2014, that would be 1,790 pounds and 11,300 pounds. Going to a 3.55 locking rear axle with eco-boost engine, the maximum payload is 1,790 pounds but only 9,800 pounds pulling capacity. The specs for 2015 have not been published, but everything I read says those payload/towing numbers will go up.

The trouble is, as per Ford's ordering guide, 2015 XLTs and Lariats cannot get the 3.73 locking axle without buying the Heavy Duty Payload package, which I am willing to buy except for this: The luxury groups (501, 502) are not an option for XLTs and Lariats if you buy the HD package. Me, I want maximum payload, maximum towing capacity, and luxury items, but Ford won't let me have it. So, right now my order is on hold

Thought J2807 was just about tow capacity and GCWR?

Not sure what regulations or standards cover a truck's GVWR, but they do seem arbitrary oftentimes.

Make no mistake, the main goal for the 2015 f150 is fuel economy. CAFE is making sure of it. They even reduced the size of the fuel tank...
No doubt the new truck will still be a class leader in payload, but those expecting to see a 9,000 GVWR will be disappointed.

Look in the 3rd col "Payload".
If it says "2.7L Ecoboost", that means it has the 2.7L EB version of the HD payload including the 9.5" rear end gears. The 1960# GVWR has the 2.7L EB version of the HD Payload package.

If the 3rd column says "Heavy-Duty" that's the regular non-2.7L HD Payload option, but there are no weights available for that now.

Oh yeah, I see it now on those others.

I'm not impressed then with the payload figures? Seems like they reduced weight and reduced GVWR by the same amount of the weight they lost.

Exactly, at least for the 2.7L EB. But Ford pretty much has the best half-ton payloads around so it probably didn't need to boost them. And by lowering the GVWR it could use lighter/cheaper components too, like the rear axles.

Not sure what the #'s will be like for the 5L V8 or the 3.5L EB though.

With those low payload numbers a guy might as well get a Ram or Toyota:) Maybe Ford is preparing for the J2807 standards.

According to the order guide a 4x4 Supercrew 145" wheelbase 2.7 Ecoboost has a max payload of 1,960lbs. There is no indicator that number includes HD payload, but there are two GVWR listed for that truck, 6500 and 6900lbs. So, I would assume the 6900lb truck is with HD payload?

The 6500lb GVWR truck is listed with 1640lbs payload, that's a disappointing number to me, as it essentially matches the current F150 for payload capacity.

Who knows what the options are on that truck, but since it says max I'm going to assume that number is with a stripped truck.

A 4x4 2013/2014 XLT Supercrew without max tow or HD payload currently has ~1600lbs payload I believe?

When the HD payload package was introduced on the last generation of F150s, you couldn't get it in Lariat trim or with the 6.5' bed either. After a year or two those options were added. Perhaps just a bit of patience is in order.

Somewhere in the discussion here: 2015 Order guide link

Page 38 of the guide has some GVWR and payloads.
Then somebody noted that the HD Payload wheel on p 23 has only 6 lugs.
There are no GAWRs in that guide. Just the 9.75" gear set for the HD Payload trucks. Guess we are just assuming that is the 4050# GAWR. Maybe 3500GAWR for non-HD Payload?

EDIT: the 2.7L EB has its own HD Payload package with the 9.75" gear set too. That will be an interesting truck.

Perfect thanks. Just looked at the 2015 order guide.

You don't need guides. Just call Ford Marketing in Dearborn at 1-800-334-4375 and ask them two questions re: the 2015 XLT and Lariat:1) Can I get a 3.73 locking rear axle without buying the Heavy Duty Payload package? and 2) If I get the HD Payload option, can I also get the 501A mid-luxury option or the 502A luxury option?

To the above the answers are 'no' and 'no.' 2014 XLTs and Lariats are, or were, different. The answer to same questions above would be 'yes' and 'no.'

My question was concerning payload numbers for the HD option. It seems no one really knows for sure.

The preliminary order docs I link to above only have GVWR and max Payloads for the 2.7L HD Payload package. Not for the 3.5 yet.

Of course these are MAX payloads, and we all know what that means.
