I’m planning on ordering a ‘23 Super Duty as soon as the order banks open. I don’t need more power and I’ll probably only keep the truck for a year. How many of you are going to be willing to pay an extra $1500 (just a guess) for a high output Powerstroke? Is the larger turbo of the high output going to cost more at the pumps? I think justifying the Cummins high output is a little easier as it includes the Aisin transmission. The only way it makes sense for me with the Powerstroke is if I’m going to get my money back on the resale.

My only question is why order a new truck (and wait several months to get it) if you only plan to keep it for a year?

From what I have read the high output will include a water cooled turbo and some other parts.

The figures are out: 1200 lbft of torque and 500 HP. I had guessed a little more but I actually think 500 HP with 1200 lb ft of torque is going to be wonderful. The HO engine will have a 19% torque rise vs 9% on the regular output. Maybe the new turbo will give us a little stronger exhaust brake?

LOL... Well your probably right! With 500HP and 1,200 ft/lbs of torque and massive towing capacity. I think the choice is pretty easy.

Kudos to GM for building their HD in the US and I like the looks of their 2024 truck. My parents have Chevy 2500 Duramax and it's been a good truck.

^^^The Powerstroke HO has the same compression ratio as the normal Powerstroke .... I don't expect there to be any difference in fuel economy. I think Ford is making it much harder for the aftermarket to gain access to the ECM so it could be they are going going after the high performance market kind of like building a Tremor to go after the lift kit market. It will be interesting to hear the power/torque numbers as well as the cost of the HO.

Hey what happened to all the bad mouthing about RAM offering two power levels and GM and Ford only needing one??? NOT referring to you.

Personally I like the idea of offering a higher compression/lower torque Cummins for those who are more concerned about unladen fuel economy along side a HO Cummins for those who use their truck primarily for towing. Ford offering a regular and HO Powerstroke is strictly a ploy for Ford to squeeze more out of their customers.... and, I might end up being a customer who falls victim to their scheme.

I'm not sure it is a ploy since the HO version will have a new turbo and stainless steel exhaust manifolds. It will be interesting how the fuel economy will be compared to the standard Powerstroke. If the HO version yields lower fuel economy then that will probably explain why Ford created a HO version.

I suspect the high output would also get better milage, so for me the 1500 or what ever to get a bit more power and milage would be a no brainer

I do all the time in my 2014 f350 with the 40 foot 5th bahind me. smasher I have to touch my brakes but other than that I can go from jasper to van with out using the brakes except when you have to stop. the only other places are small section one just outside of golden and that will probably be at least 80/90 kph when they are done. and the one by creston and you can't go that fast as it is all switch backs. orther than that it just sharp corners that you have to slow down for but thats nothing to do with the exhause brake
