Oven

Okay so here goes my first question of probably many as I explore my RV. When I bought the RV, during the walk through, the seller couldn't get the oven to work. All 3 burners worked but the oven wouldn't. He lit the burners with a lighter and tried to light the oven with a lighter but couldn't. We smelled gas so I am pretty sure there was gas going to the oven. To me it wasn't a big deal because not many people use their ovens. When I got the trailer home I noticed that there was a knob on the stove that said "Lite". Should we have been using that knob to light the oven...or even the stove for that matter? I have not hooked the trailer up to electricity or propane since getting it home to try it out. Just thought I would ask away. The stove/oven is a Magic Chef gas oven.

What a PITA. Glad I have a 2002 model that doesn't have any of that.

Makes you never want to turn off the oven or run out of propane.

Just what they said about the light knob and the top burners. The oven, which we use every trip, is a PITA sometimes to light. Down on hands and knees with a long lighter. Also a flashlight. The pilot is usually to the right of the burner and maybe 2/3 of the way back. Turn the oven know to light, push in at the same time your trying to find the pilot, once you see the little blue flame, hold the knob for a few more seconds and then turn to the temp you want. It's one of those things that's a stinker the first few times, but then you can almost do it with your eyes closed....almost.

Get your model number, Google for a manual. Get a flashlight and find the pilot light, then mess with lighting it.
Good luck.

The knob to your far right is the striker for the burners only.If working properly you should be able to turn on a burner and give the striker knob a quick turn hearing multiple clicks and it would light the burner on the stove top.

To light the oven, you have to turn the oven knob to the pilot position and push in on the knob, then hold a lighter to the pilot in the oven. You must keep the knob pushed in until the pilot stays lit, usually about 20 seconds or longer. then let off of the oven knob and turn to the desired temperature setting and the main burner should light.

They can be a pain to get lit and stay lit. You have to get a long handled lighter or match and hold it at the source of the gas with not too much gas coming out. And have to be patient.
One note... If you have been letting gas flow in there for awhile without getting the pilot lit, I would let it air out a bit before trying again.
Look up on youtube... Can probably get some good tips there as well as on here.

Good luck.

The "lite" knob is for the top burners. It's a pizzo lighter. You turn on which burner you want and then turn the "lite" knob. It should click and produce a spark at the burner to light it.

To light the over pilot light you have to hold in the over knob while holding a match or butane lighter to the pilot light area inside the oven at the bottom near the burner. It takes some doing as you have to heat up the thermocouple. You have to be somewhat of a contortionist.

'Lite' may be a sparker-clicker type button used for the burners. Ovens are usually lit by hand. To make it easier, turn the thermostat to a few hundred degrees to really get gas flowing. Light it quickly and you won't blow up.
