The legs do come off (if you leave it on the truck for a while).
I find mine to be very comfortable and mine actually has a descent mattress. The Lance I had, had a terrible mattress.
Nice unit at a very reasonable price. I think you'll be very pleased with it.
You'll need a set of folding steps for sure. I have a set of TorkLift Stow and Go steps. Work really well.
