Patched tire

I did not have the time to read this whole thread. On my vehicles I have run patched tires down the road for 1000's of miles at speeds that I am not going to confess to on here.

It depends on where the hole it. If it is on the face a well installed patch will run the life of the tire.

Never heard of this "plug and patch" thing. Around here the patch it inside the tire and send you out the door.

They used to do a plug too if you wanted. It depends on the tire and what you are using it for. The used to do a lot of plugs but, I haven't seen anyone try to do one in years. I don't think modern tires and plugs go together very well.

If I were in the tire industry I'd want everyone to buy a new tire every time a nail or some other penetrating object compromises the old one.

After all, I'm sure a case can be made that all tires that have had something penetrate and therefore cut into the belts can no longer be trusted no matter what type of repair is made to the tires.

Tire stores, gas stations etc will patch plug etc etc without any thought to what happens after your rear bumper crosses the sidewalk of their shop on leaving....its your problem

A plugged tire is a sure fire way to cause a separation. I plugged tires until I had a tire completely disintegrate on me...never again

These shops are putting themselves at risk of liability, because they are not following the best practices established by the tire industry.

Tires are temporary too. I have plugged 100s of tires back when it paid the rent. Never had one fail on a customer. We did inside patches too and they also worked fine. If done right there should be no issue for the remaining tire life.

There is. Plugs cut cords in the tires which is no bueno. Have I gotten away with plugs in the old days? Yep, but I won't do it again.

yet they point to no source for good VOE supporting there claims.

LOL, does the Tire Industry Association drum up business too? Plugs are considered a temp fix by every competent person in the business.
