Picked up the 2015 Roo 21SS today..

Looks like a winner, will be taking it out next week. I do have a question though.... When you fold up the beds, is there a special way you pack the mattress on the ends? I just don't like the force you have to use to secure them.

Has anyone run into this problem?

Thanks,

Jim
  • Here is what I found out, after you take down the support for the tent the mattress folds about in half and atands up by the opening into the bed. Then making sure the windows and all are closed, turn on the "Super Fan" in the ceiling and it sucks all the canvas in on the ends. At this point you go outside push and canvas and the ends fold up with no problem.....Got this idea from the Rockwood/Roo Forum. Works great..

    Thanks,
    Jim
  • Agree that you shouldn't have to use this much force. Our ROO had the DEtatched tents and yours had the attached, I believe. That may make a slight difference, but not that much. We used sheets/blanket/quilt set up and unless we were on a longer trip, we removed all the bedding to wash and have ready for the next trip. If we were opening up nightly, we left the sheets and blanket on, but removed the quilt...assuming cooler weather. A part of your problem could be that you are not getting every little snippet of the tent completely inside before trying to close it. If there is anything not inside, it adds to the bulk and also gives water a great spot to seep in, so check that.

Forum members....anyone in the area that could lend a hand in showing the OP exactly what needs to be done and make sure that there are no problems??
  • It shouldn't take any significant force. Take the pillows and bulky stuff off the bed, then remove the shepards pole and put it on the mattress. Pull the U shaped end support bar down onto the mattress and then fold the smaller half odf the mattress over the U-shaped bar and the shepards pole (sandwich them in the middle). At this point I always give the mattress a push to make sure it is as far forward - toward the outside edge of the door - as it will go to make closing the door easier. I think you may have the newer mattress that is thicker where it sits on the "shelf" but it should still have straps to buckle it to the door once you have folded it. Then go outside and close the door, taking care to make sure do canvas is caught in the seal. Any canvas pinched in those seals will cause a leak.

    Congrats on the new Roo!
  • Thanks for the reply. I really can't fault the dealer, they sell Rockwood but not the Roo line, for some reason the hybrid line isn't popular in Arkansas. I gave him which one with what options and he ordered it for me. The ends were "new" to both of us.
Other than that we spent 2-3 hrs with him going over everything on the unit. We really like it, coming from a past of having 4 pop-ups..
    I'll PM.

  • I am surprised that process wasn't shown to you when you were given your PDI. The entire workings of the rig should have been explained to you. However if you will PM me I will try to explain the folding process to you. Oh, congrats on the new rig. We have a '05 236 ROO and we still love it. I'm sure you will feel the same about your purchase. You bought a extremely popular model.
