And depending whether you've ever driven much with the tailgate down, one would realize that this doesn't happen. I've never tried just spinning donuts in gravel to see if I could hit the tailgate, but trip to AK and back and countless trips...everywhere, including plenty of winter road trips through snow country and I cannot say I've ever noticed any tailgate paint damage from driving with it down. I fairly OCD about my vehicles too, so if this was a thing, I wouldn't likely do it. - GunnyJExplorerI will be taking it off yes I do have an 8 foot bed and will be picking the TC on the 18th of June again Thank You all!!!

for 8 foot bed ALWAYS take it off. No camper that I have ever seen require an 8 foot bed to also have a tailgate down. For a 6 foot bed trying to haul an 8 foot camper then you are hacking it to death, so bring a thick moving blanket and plan to put tailgate in the camper for drive home where you can sit and stare at it while regretting getting the wrong camper.
I don’t follow.
What does this have to do with the OP?
Are you suggesting that TCs should not hang out the back of short beds, only long beds?
Strange post.... - ajridingExplorer IIfor 8 foot bed ALWAYS take it off. No camper that I have ever seen require an 8 foot bed to also have a tailgate down. - towproExplorerplus many slide into bed but are wider behind truck bed (cover truck lights) and the tailgate cables will be in the way
- GunnyJExplorerThanks All I will be taking it off
- KD4UPLExplorerLeave the tailgate off. I made that mistake once when I went to pick up a camper. I had to bring the tailgate home inside the camper. Wouldn't have been so bad except it was a rainy day and the tailgate already had wet road grime all over it.
- LadyRVerExplorer IIMy new truck camper hung over the back of my truck... I had an 8' bed. I would remove tailgate and leave it home.. if it works, you can always put it back on.
- LwiddisExplorer III’d remove it. Wouldn’t want it bouncing as I drive.
