Hi everyone,
Looking at getting a diesel truck. Would appreciate your feedback on what you have, and what you get.
Please give me a Truck year, make, model, transmission, rear end ratio.

Empty MPG, City/Hwy.
Loaded MPG City/Hwy.

Plus were your at, Mountains, flatland, rolling hills.

Thanks Doug:C

Well thanks for all the info everyone. I see this post is not dead and it keeps on giving.
Update. I ended up getting a 2008 Ford F-350 dually Flatbed. And a New 2013 NorthStar Arrow 8.5 Love them both expecially the extra storage compartments on the outside of the camper.
Now these numbers are winter diesel and that tends to be a little less economy I would assume.
Empty 55mph - 15-19
Empty interstate 75mph - 12
T/C loaded - 9.5 any speed
Heres a photo.

I get about the same in my 99 DRW F350, 7.3, 4.10.....I'm 99% sure most people here are FOS.

I just picked up a 99 F550 7.3 to load my 94 caribou on. Unloaded at 70 flat ground is 14 to 15 MPG with 4.88 rear. 12.5 around town. I will be interested to see what it gets with the cabover on. then a 2000 lb trailer.
What I'm curious about is on the caribou will the house battery charge from the truck as I drive?

Beautiful setup Chris-n-Katy! Hope you extended those mirrors on that Ford before you drove off.

My brother in-law just borrowed our 10' truck camper on his 2012 Dodge (Diesel 3500 Crew cab 4WD SRW 8'bed) for a 5000 mile trip. He normally gets 14mpg empty and reported an overall average with the camper at 11mpg and he was towing a small utility trailer with two Harley Davidson road bikes.

Recently towed my travel trailer with our old 6.5 GM Diesel (something I don't normally do), the trailer weighs just over 10,300lb loaded and we got 11mpg. That's compared to my Suburban which I normally use to tow, and the 454 Vortec gets about 7.5mpg usually.

Just picked up our new truck and camper! Can't wait to see what kind of mileage we get from our diesel 2010 F350 Dually Crew Cab 4x4.

Alaska could give you poor MPG on your way up if you have a Gale wind in the face like I did. I was getting 9 to 10 on my way up, I had to tie down the canoe with one more strap as I was scared it would fly off. 13 to 16 on my way back, with tail wind, even 17 some time.

If I would be an early bird, I would try to travel between 5 and 12 in the morning. I think the wind is stronger in PM.

Back from New Mexico, going North East this winter, I was watching the weather forecast and chose the route with less wind and it paid off.

just cleaned the exhaust back pressure sensor in my 7.3..... The lie-o-meter said I was getting 20.6 mpg max on my test road,(55mph for five miles, totally flat) prior to cleaning. After cleaning... same drive showed 22.8 mph. Not much difference in tank mileage yet, but it really woke up the 7.3 I have to admit my foot has been heavier as a result too.

Last March I installed the Mini Maxx and 4" stainless exhaust on the truck and mileage went from 10 average loaded to 13. And that was with a new front bike rack with 3 bikes on it. Very happy with the new power and mileage.

Just hit 10.3 mpg after a 2000 mile/15 day camping/photo/exploring trip to central and eastern Oregon. Up from 9.3 after 4 week trip through the US Southwest. I think the addition of a spoiler/air foil (homemade by hubby) under the front of the truck helped. Driving was mostly state highways, county roads, gravel roads, freeways, and several 4x4 one lane rutted rocky roads.
