Hi everyone,
Looking at getting a diesel truck. Would appreciate your feedback on what you have, and what you get.
Please give me a Truck year, make, model, transmission, rear end ratio.

Empty MPG, City/Hwy.
Loaded MPG City/Hwy.

Plus were your at, Mountains, flatland, rolling hills.

Thanks Doug:C

Well thanks for all the info everyone. I see this post is not dead and it keeps on giving.
Update. I ended up getting a 2008 Ford F-350 dually Flatbed. And a New 2013 NorthStar Arrow 8.5 Love them both expecially the extra storage compartments on the outside of the camper.
Now these numbers are winter diesel and that tends to be a little less economy I would assume.
Empty 55mph - 15-19
Empty interstate 75mph - 12
T/C loaded - 9.5 any speed
Heres a photo.

This is my old rig (should have kept it in hind-sight)when times were good and fuel was cheap. But alas we went on to bigger and better things. Only to end up back in a TC.......who knew. :h

1997 Dodge, 12V, non electronic 5.9, 5sp manual, 3.54 gears, 325hp/600tq......was turned up a little.

Those 12 valve cummins sure got some great mileage!
wish I still had mine.

Truck does around 20 winter to 25 summer mi/US gal empty on hwy - 65mph. Mileage is higher in town with the manual.

I gotta say, I really do not remember a Thread to do with MPG going so long without going sideways to the point of being closed. I think this is a first, and I am impressed. Great job gang.

Yep, here too, I had a big head wind going west to Alaska with the camper and sometimes the transmission would not even go overdrive, so MPG was in the 10 to 11. Comming back was a happy camper, 16 to 17 MPG with tail wind. So MPG is a matter of taking the numbers for long drive, I would say average a long drive going out and comming back the same route in the same condition. Or going on a long drive without wind.

When I was going to California from the North East, I also had a head wind and as I was going west, my GPS was showing significant increase in altitude. I did not notice it because the highway is flat, but I could feel the old 7.3 was working harder and smoking black. Again on the way back, it was a different story, back wind, going down.

There is big Delta with MPG versus tail and head wind with a camper. Pulling the aluminum enclosed trailer, without the camper gets me roughly the same MPG has with the camper on, with or without trailer.

We also have winter fuel which gets worst MPG, so when I will go south this winter, the winter fuel will get me worst MPG than when I will be down in Texas.

I have had similar experience I need to average approx 10000 miles in order to get a proper mpg average. On one trip from BC to Washington DC I was getting a 16.8 mpg (on US gallon) average, I had one heck of storm that blew me across the continent. On the return trip I had one heck of a headwind, by the time I averaged the whole trip of 12000 miles the average had slipped to 15mpg.

Maybe I been figuring my MPG incorrectly. I thought I was getting 26 MPG with the TC. I got 13 MPG going, and 13 MPG coming back. 13 + 13 = 26.

No offence intended, just trying for a little humor.

You're almost right, except you subtract the two. Since you did a round trip and essentially went nowhere you got a big 0 MPG.

Fuel economy not hauling: 15 mpg city, 18 mpg highway
Fuel economy hauling: 10 mpg city, 13 mpg highway

Fuel economy is hand calculated and comes close to the ScanGauge II.
Hauling is with the TC on the TV and a 7000 lb enclosed trailer in tow resulting in 18,500 lbs GCVW.
Highway speeds are 60-65 mph.
