Proper way to re seal camper walls

Looking for opinions on the proper way I should go about sealing my Northstar camper, specifically the sides. It looks like the manufacturer used butyl tape along the all seams on the outside walls, vents and the jacks. I know I need to prep with mineral spirits and then soapy water but I am unsure if I need to remove things like the jacks, and exterior seams or just go over the butyl tape with Proflex leaving all hardware and etc. in place.

Thank you.
  • I used 4" wide eternabond tape for everything on the roof including gutters, front/rear roof seams. I used proflex on all other areas. I left the butyl and taped off so I had clean lines. Looks good and gives me piece of mind that it is better than factory and won't leak.
  • On mine the bathroom roof vent seal was leaking and the escape hatch vent also was starting to leak, I replaced all the butyl and resealed with self leveling sealant on the roof I used Dicor up there and geocel for the walls and seams. The biggest problem was getting the silicone cleaned up.
  • I don't want to tell you that you should do that, without seeing your camper, I just know mine was pretty neglected and I felt it was needed. The silicone was in bad shape and I know the butyl was starting to dry out. I am glad I changed all mine out making sure its a tight seal. Just one observation, at the RV parts place that I get my stuff, when you buy any parts that attach to the camper they give you enough butyl to seal it. I did my best to seal everything on my camper roof, sides, doors every thing except the windows. Ill get to them also for now I have just resealed them with geocel.
  • my dealer sealed everything with geocel before he even gave me the camper. he said he highly recommends this and it really does prevent problems down the road.
  • Northsore, so you think I should remove the butyl tape that is already there around the seams and the jacks and then apply new butyl tape and cover with geocel? I guess I am a bit apprehensive about doing more harm than good.
  • I just finished that project, I removed all the intrusions except the windows, and resealed the with the butyl and sealed with geocel. I did the electrical connection, water fill, sewer hose compartment, cable tv connector, stove vent, every thing except the windows.
Mine was coated with silicone over and over, so I might have went overboard but felt It needed to be done correctly.
