- 1stgenfarmboyExplorerI never waited on any of my 5 Cummins trucks, I always plugged them in when temps reached 20* or less.

It's getting thick in here. Anyone who makes claims of their Cummins having glow plugs just pegs my BS meter - ie, they never had one.
Any reasonably healthy B series Cummins will start down to -30 without cycling the grid heaters.
I have owned 2 Cummins powered rigs, a '94 and a '99. Both require(d) cycling the grid heaters three, maybe 4 times at less than 20 below to start. The '94 had 210K on it when I got rid of it, the '99 has less than 180K. All indications showed that they were (are) "reasonably healthy".
Blanket statements like that peg my BS meter big time!
But then, I am jus' a dumb ol' retired mechanic, what do I know...
Yes, I do find myself getting in the PT Cruiser and the motorhome and waiting after turning the ignition on! - nremtp143ExplorerI've driven diesels since '86 in the workplace, owned diesels for my daily drivers since '94, but own a few gas burners like my wife's Odyssey, V10 F250 and a Silverado 3500 8.1 and wait for the light to go off EVERY TIME I crank them:B
- I simply turn the key and start my Power Stroke so I never developed a habit of waiting.
- mtofell1ExplorerI do it in all my vehicles just to give the fuel pump a chance to get going. I know it probably doesn't matter but it just feels better. When I do run through it too fast sometimes it seems like there's a lag when the engine is coughing and trying to start. For all the crazy OCD **** I do this isn't the tip of the iceberg :)
- BedlamModeratorI get in the vehicle and turn the ignition on before I buckle my seat belt. I know this is ingrained habit since I have been driving a diesel since 1982.
- filrupmarkExplorer:S I catch myself waiting in my Camry
- Bill___KateExplorerYeah - sort of like stomping my foot on the floor to the right of the house toilet trying to flush it after a long time in the trailer ......

I had a Dodge diesel that before it would start it i would have to kick all 4 tires, Open up the tailgate to give it air, slam the hood to get the glow plugs to work. And then let it start rolling down hill so I could catch it in gear after it would not start on the starter. Bought this new F-350 and I'm always on time for appointments now.
NICE!!! Sorry Cummins 5.9/6.7 never have had "Glow Plugs".
