I agree about not knowing how to check fuel mileage. One guy told me he couldn't check his mileage because he forgot what the price per gallon was when he filled up last time. One forgot how much fuel he bought the last time so he couldn't check it this time to average the difference.

It confuses me.

I don't think most people are intentionally "lying" about fuel mileage. More than a few people I've talked to simply don't know how to figure fuel mileage. Also there are so many drivetrain combinations that it is very difficult to compare evenly. Someone with a 3.55 rear end driving empty downhill with the wind pushing them will get different mileage than someone with a 4+ rear end pulling a fiver uphill against the wind.

But fuel mileage threads can be fun... not quite as good as Walmart threads, but close!

My BEST hand calc towing with my 98 12V combined weight of 20.5K with a small tail wind and drafting a semi for many miles at 60-65 mph was 13.4mpg. Truck had 3:55 gears.

My average with said combo was 10.5 AVERAGE over many towing tanks in all weather conditions.

So my now combo at 28K hand calc average in all conditions is 9,5 mpg. I would say that is very good.

With the 98 I towed at 65 and with the 11 I tow at 62mph.

We're going out shopping for a Honda Element this weekend. Great tow vehicle, great mileage and dashing good looks to boot! :B
