Rear storage for Lance 820

Good evening,

I recently swapped to a Lance 820 from my Northstar 850. They are both short bed models but my 850 had 2 wing storage boxes that my Lance doesn't have. I used to keep my clean and grey water hoses, a hatchet, extension cord, 1 gallon propane bottles for my grill, bug spray, etc in them. Now I have no place to put them. I am wondering how others have handled this. A few things though- no front hitch (I have one, don't want to use it for that) and am wondering about a box on the back bumper and how people have attached it to the camper. I want the ease of simply loading camper and going w/o a box to throw inside camper or truck or putting the front draw bar in. I do a weekly overnight in it and frequent short trips. Thanks in advance and as always pictures help.
  • I have wings but the generator is in one and my drains are in the other. I frequently tow a bass boat so I want something not related to the rear draw bar either. I saw some boxes on line and have looked at tool storage boxes but I'm not sure how to secure them to the camper. I like this last picture but I have the step bumper that would prevent that as well.
  • This is woe with short bed campers. I do have the wings on my Lance 165-s short bed and added an aluminum rack to the rear reciever to stow extra diesel fuel tanks and firewood for desert treks. I cut the square tube on the rack down short enough to just miss the rear bumper and drilled another pin hole for that location. I also added cranked up turnbuckles and chains to stabilize the rack also giving a better departure angle. The only problem is to keep the contents of the rack weather and dust free if needed with weather proof storage boxes short enough to fit under the overhang. I've seen some 5 foot wide racks of late and that would be good to increase the storage potential back there. The good news is, you can take or leave the rack when needed depending on the trip. On edit, further good news is that the contents of the rack cannot be bounced or lifted out without releasing the tension on the turnbuckles, an arduous task for a wayward miscreant.
  • Would something like these work? I realize its an order ad but gives you an idea of what an option may be.

I am not familiar with how the rear skirts are on your camper. These are Lance pods though. I believe they went with the 815 long/short box camper. Maybe they could work on the 820 as well?
  • maybe the lance has storage boxes as an add on? i know my northstars are, maybe the northstars would fit on a lance? it couldn't hurt the resale, that's for sure.
  • I put one of the rectangular frames with the mesh bottom that goes into the hitch . I put 2 plastic bins with lids on it and bungied down. BBq with bbq stuss in one and whatever in the other. The rack was even with the back of the camper. And the bins cam out easily from the side.
You could make a box for it with doors on the side that way you would not have to take bins off .
