Recurve R3 Lubrication

Question

My Recurve manual says that the trunnion spindle should be lubed before each use. This is supposed to be easy thanks to the grease fitting.

So, I bought a grease gun. Got it working. When I connect it to the grease fitting using the connector included with the grease gun, lots of grease comes out around the fitting and little (if any) actually goes through the fitting.

What, if anything, am I doing wrong?

Be sure that it was pushed on all the way.  If so, try a new grease fitting and if that doesn't work, replace the coupler on the grease gun.

It sounds like your zerk fittings may be plugged. You can remove them, clean in solvent, and check the mounting hole to see if caked grease is plugging the hole.

I've had luck with using heat on a clogged grease fitting.  If you have one of the long fire starter lighters, try heating the fitting with that for a few seconds and see if that clears it.

Should be easy to see if the grease zerks are plugged up.  If they are, they are dirt cheap and readily available at auto stores and places like Ace Harware.  Can you manually grease the bars before inserting them?  Are you supposed to add grease before or after the bars are inserted?  Don't think I'd want a WDH that requires a grease gun plus.
