REMCO Drive Shaft Coupling

I'm considering installing a Drive Shaft Disconnect on my 2013 Nissan Frontier truck and was wondering if any of you have any experience with this set-up?

Thanks,

Peter
  • my drive shaft disconnect experience which was bad was solely for a rear wheel drive s-10 pu and have no idea how it would work with a 4 x 4 etc.

  • Thanks. Still confused, especially after talking with a REMCO Drive Shaft installer here in Salem who wasn't completely reassuring when it came to the fact that my 2013 Nissan Truck is an optional 4X4 wheel drive vehicle and wasn't sure how the drive shaft being disconnected would affect the front wheel drive mechanisms. The concept is, if the main drive Shaft is disconnected using his REMCO coupler, with the automatic transmission in Park, it will not be functioning and no damage would occur. How's that sound?
  • I have been using one on my 04 Chevy van for 10 years. Mine also needed to be balanced. I use dry silicone lube. Works just fine.
  • Had one with my Mercury Grand Marque, worked fine after I had it balanced. Bought a Saturn Vue and no longer need it.
  • I have been using one for over ten years with no trouble. I use dry silicone lubricant.
  • Had one on a Ford Explorer - got to keep it lubricated at the splines. Dealer installed the drive shaft and I installed the disconnect cables.

I pulled it behind a motor home.

After that vehicle - I always purchased vehicles that are designed for flat tow.
  • I had one on my S10 pickup. hated it.
periodically would pop out of mesh, I'd hear a little pinging noise then whoa.
if you want to crawl under your vehicle frequently and clean/lube/pray/etc. go for it. some folks here claim that they don't have to crawl under, but they must have 6 ft long arms. trade vehicles. :)
