remove shower curtain track to install extend a shower??

2008 Jayco 311 lgt with a narrow shower with the dreaded shower curtain track installed to the ceiling. I want to install the extend a shower rod in its place for more room.

Has anyone done this? I know I'll be drilling some new holes so what's recommended to seal the new holes so water doesn't get in?

We had the Extend A Shower in our previous trailer, one of the best mods I ever did. Loved it, and as a bonus, you can hang damp towels over it. We replaced curtain that rolled with wheels on a track attached to the ceiling. I filled the holes that were left when i removed the track with some white bathroom caulk and you would have to look very close to find them. As to the mounting hardware, I don't recall exactly but used the supplied hardware. I did not seal the screws as it really did not get wet up there, but it won't hurt to do so.

the molly bolts I am familiar with take a huge hole to get the fitting thru. wouldn't want to tear up my wall that badly.

Use the plastic corkscrew anchors that are designed for sheetrock. They really work well in the light paneling. :C

I just moved the shower curtain track itself out about 6 inches - works great. I did put dabs of caulking in the old screw holes - just for looks.

I read that some folks used molly bolts which will make a nice secure fit.

I have an extend a shower curtain rod Inness to install as well. My tentative plan is to leave the factory track in the ceiling with the stock curtain and see how it works out. If it doesn't, than I will remove it or reinstall it a little further out.

I left the track and hangers be and just installed the new rod. There is no need to seal the holes because water doesn't get up that high. Well, not if you are taking a regular shower. If you and the missus get in there together and really whoop it up, all bets are off. But if it really troubles you, you might put a tiny dab of white caulk under the screw head before you drive it home. But I really don't think you need it.

the odds of any amount of water going up to get at where the curtain rod anchors is slim to none. I wouldn't worry much about it. More worried of potential anchor screw pullout if you don't hit some support.

I guess I could do that. Probably look better too.

Do you think regular bathroom silicone caulk around the new screws I drill will prevent water from intruding?

can you just leave the track and curtain as it is and mount the extended shower rod below it a bit to push the curtain out? if it doesn't work properly after testing it out for a while, then you can worry about removing the old track or just leave it there.
