Removing U-shaped dinette benches

Our rig has a U-shaped dinette area. We both would like to remove the benches and cushions and then put in either a small loveseat or two RV sized recliners. We thought this would be a fairly easy task to remove the two main benches but the center (bottom of the "U") is not an internal bench/box. It's a cover that goes directly over an outside storage unit so a cover needs to remain.

Would it be possible to simply remove the two interior storage boxes and then place a more solid 'cover' on the newly exposed floor, thus giving support and cover to the storage unit at the bottom of the "U" ? We don't ever access that storage cupboard from inside, only from the outside.

Before we scrap this idea of modding out the dinette and installing some comfortable seating, we'd welcome any ideas or suggestions on how to get around this construction problem.
  • When modifying a TT all bets are off. No two models are the same and often objects cover other objects. My dinette covered my furnace and water pump plus opened on a storage space.

Also as an RV dealer told me, you change it you own it. People rarely like the brilliant ideas of other people.

    Good luck
  • Yes, you could fabricate a flush cover to close off the outside storage. With some thought it could be made to integrate, cosmetically, with rest of your interior. If you build the cover with hinges, it's original access function could be retained.

    Good luck with the remodeling!
