Because this is a forum and that is how forums work.
People are only trying to be helpful. Stomping your feet and screaming "BUT THAT IS NOT THE QUESTION THAT I ASKED!!!" is wasted time and energy. It only serves to make you look like an ungrateful "ass" as you put it.
You don't have to disclose every aspect of your situation. Someone tried to make a helpful comment pointing out something you may not have thought of.
Next time a thread starts going off on a tangent, your best bet is to just take the tangential information as it was intended, smile sweetly, thank people for their time, and move on.
