Replace Lance Max 981 speakers

I have the speakers depicted in the photograph. Needless to say they are less than desired. I have changed out the stock Jensen AV for an after market deck and these speakers are over powered.

Has anyone removed the speaker pods from their Lance and replaced them with something more desirable?

There is about 1 1/2" clearance between the ceiling and roof. I suppose a spacer would allow for mounting speakers with larger magnets.

Any input from anyone who has changed these out would be appreciated.
