Replacement Tires

That Goodyear Wrangler HT is actually a “75 series” not 85 as in 215/75/15 Load D
I have used them on many trailers at my job and have had good success with them

Hello, I know this has probably been already beat to death but I am trying to decide what the best option for replacement tires for our 2013 coachmen Catalina. I am trying to stay away from the China made tires as of their reputation for blow outs.

China actually makes some very good ST...LT...and P tires with time and mileage proven performance (several years of service and 40k+ miles of service).
Before chine made tires our ST tires were made by our major tire makers all in the USA..... and we had the same issues with them also.

The only ST tires that I've seen on rv and haulers websites that has a excellent reputation since they hit the streets in the '11 era is a Provider ST tire. Its one of the first new gen higher speed rated ST tire.
Goodyears Endurance and the Carlisle HD ST tires are both new gen tires. Both hit the streets last year so no mileage or years of service record to look at yet. JMO.... both are a step up in looks ie; they lost that cheap low cost tread design and more importantlythe basketball shaped sidewall profile that led to many of their issues.

I assume the ST205/75-15 is OEM size and probably a load range C at 1820 lbs or D at 2150 lb capacity.
Years back 1/2 ton trucks used 15" tires so we had many sizes and load ranges to choose from for our trucks and trailers. Today most usa tire makers carry a LT235/75-15 C at 1980 lbs capacity.
Goodyear has a Wrangler HT in a LT215/85-15 D load range at 2090 lbs capacity.
Maxxis LT U-168 are a commercial grade tire with several 15" sizes and have became popular with all types of trailer owners for several years now.
Yokohama RY215 in a 700R 15 D at 2040 lbs capacity is popular on some of the other RV websites.
Goodyear Cargo G26 2249 lb capacity in a 225/70R 15 C 65 psi load range D for trucks/vans and trailers. Check with your Goodyear dealer if they still offer this tire.

I would go with the Carlisle HD`s in the highest load rating available for your size. I just put a set on my trailer and they are far superior to any tire I have looked at. They are replacing a set of Carlisle RH`s that are 5 years old. no issues.

Thank you for all the recommendations so far. I have heard of putting LT tires on instead of the ST tires. Do you have any LT tires that you would recommend?

I just can't figure what some RV'ers do to their tires to have blow outs. Been towing since '88, never had a blow out, only one flat tire from a nail. Most of the tires have been Chinese, don't like it but that's what Les Schwab sell, and the replace every 5-7 years is hogwash, manufacturers sure have figured out a sneaky way to get us to spend more money. I think blowouts must happen for three reasons, TT overloaded, tires under/over inflated and driving too fast particularly in hot weather. I always check the pressure before starting on a trip, 50-55 lbs cold. Had an '85 Wilderness with 10 year old Chinese 13" tires, towed for about 2000 miles before replacing cause tread was getting thin, no problems.

Recently bought a '05 TrailCruiser. The seller said he had had two blowouts that had damaged some of the undercarraige, but had been fixed. It had decent tires with about 60% tread left. Got it home and when checked the pressure all tires had 35 lbs. Called the seller and asked him if he always ran his tires at 35, he said yes, told him that's why he had the blow outs, should have been running 50 lbs as listed on tire.

'times I think if you derate the ST similar to an LT the ST would hold up a lot better.

I put the Endurance on my 10K gvwr trailer before we headed to FL this past Dec. They have been noticeably more stable than the Trailer Kings that came on it. Also, the argument for LT vs. ST is misleading. Research why. Scrubbing is the major factor with trailer tires and LT compounds are not the same as ST tire compounds which are more resistant supposedly to the scrubbing action on tires in turns. I will trust the tire engineers and believe they still make ST tires for a reason.

Blowouts are caused my heat build up. ST tires are not good at dissipating heat. LT tires are good at dissipating heat. Buy some LT tires.

I had my china bombs replaced with Endurance, have done several trips with them so far and really like em. Noticeable difference from the china bombs that came with the trailer.

Just put another 2,000 miles on my 205/75R15 Endurance last month.
I did pick up a screw and had to put on the spare. Patched by America's Tire for free upon return.
14 months and very happy so far.
