Retrax Tonneau replace Lexar

I have a Retrax Tonneau, it is 11 years old. It was great for a few years and then had to replace the rolling mechanism inside it, Retrax sent me the rolling mechanism and I paid $144 US.

Now I see a split across the whole unit of the Lexar at the top, I called Retrax and they said the cover can be covered under a pro-rated warranty plan. The cost of replacing the cover is $426.00 + 48.00 if shipped in the US, being a Canadian with the low Canadian dollar amounts to $664 Canadian.

I am wondering if it is worth it or maybe just buy another different Tonneau for the life of my Diesel Truck (when I trade it) which is probably three years or so and maybe if anyone on here has replaced the Tonneau Lexar cover and how it worked out for them.
Thanks for any input or suggestions......Ernie

Some other info on Retrax found while searching for a "FIX" for my split Lexar.
This guy used Pop Rivets;

I am not beating up on them as I had good service for about 6 years however they claim "Lifetime Warranty" on their advertisements.

ernie,

i too have a retrax with a semi split lexan cover (now going on 13 years). i replaced the rolling mechanism as well about three years ago ( directly from retrax). at that time the split also existed and i temporarily fixed it by stop drilling the split, and tieing the broken part with copper wire. retrax also offered a replacement lexan cover at their dealer cost (i cant remember how much at this point)

i just lived with the split the last few years, and the truck goes in on trade (tomorrow) so i dont have to decide now. i was going to get a new retrax (best price in canada i found was $1490 CDN free shipping out of toronto i now see that is $1600 they must have watched the exchange rate ) but the new truck has a factory tonneau the dealer is giving at his cost ($1000) so i'll live with that for the short term so no new retrax

(the current list on retrax from usa was $12xx plus shipping) my original came from usa at the time since there were no cdn dealers then

check with partsengine.ca ( the dealer in toronto ) maybe they can do better than retrax)

Thanks for the reply, seems like a common problem with Retrax when it gets a few years on it. I did take some 3M 2" wide Vinyl tape from my old Telephone Cable Splicing days and put it across the cracked joint and it might do for a while. I was thinking about a heat type tape that one might put on the joint and sweat it into the Lexar. If there is such a type of tape it just might work......Ernie

A tip for RETRAX owners, I alternately open the top from the passenger side and close the top from the driver side. This solved a " would not open fully " problem .
