Right Truck for the job?

I have a micro Minnie 22 foot trailer. I just got back from driving in mountainous area with wind, white knuckle driving. I just feel like the truck I was using just wasn't doing it's job.. of course we were told this truck would work. Perhaps we are a little naïve to trust. Perhaps it's me being to cautious. Any suggestions!
Truck is a GMC Canyon V6 (2017) tow capability 7,000

Micro Minnie GVWR 7,000 dry weight 3,700
2 axles. Thanks.

Going a bit slow up the mountain should not be a white knuckle experience.

Otherwise you may need a diesel.

Julie, if your post is directed to me, 2015 Chevy Tahoe...8,600 pounds to your 7,000. 1,595 payload...more than many 1/2 ton pickups.

What truck did you get?

I rejected the Canyon, Colorado, Traverse and Acadia for exactly the reason you have now experienced. Not adequate to tow my 2015 Winnebago 2101DS. Your only option is to move up.

"of course we were told this truck would work."

There are some you listen to closely and follow their advice. Then there are RV sales people where you verify everything they say.

Do you know how heavy your camper is loaded? That v-6 is pretty decent. Maybe just pulls at a higher rpm. 3-4k rpm will not hurt it.

Different people have different comfort levels while towing.
What was the issue? What hitch did you get?
You are at the max and still in the rating so maybe an adjustment is needed.

I was keeping my rpm at 3 or 4. Should I have pushed it more?

Salesmen will tell you any truck 'x' will pull any trailer 'y'. What difficulties did you experience? Sway, lack of power, control, braking, all of the above?
