Next summer we are taking our rig up to Tuktoyaktuk NWT on the new Hwy that will join Tuk to Inuvik and the rest of the world. When the Dempster Hwy (Yukon Highway 5 and Northwest Territories Highway 8) with the added 120 km ( 75 miles ) of road between Inuvik and Tuk are completely finished this fall it will be "about" 860km ( 535 miles) of gravel road, ...Yeehaw....From where I live in BC that's about 4000km one way ( 2485 miles) Hwy to Tuktoyaktuk NWTSoup.

I already made that plan. It will be 3800 miles one way for me starting from Yuma. I been to Inuvik twice already.Looks like we have similar rigs. Your units are much newer.LeRoy

I am thinking about being in NTW in early to mid July. That is about a month later than I been there in the past. The last time I was at the Arctic Ocean, there was only about 6 inch of water along the shore before the massive ice sheet. By going later I will see a little different vegetation but maybe more smoke from wild fires. It's a toss up.LeRoy Edit: wild fires was wide fires

That would be some trip. Building a year round road across the Mackenzie delta is an amazing engineering feat.

I forgot to mention that this is the last year that the ICE ROAD will be open to Tuk per the NWT website. Better drive it this winter or you will never have that chance again.LeRoy

I've been pondering that trip as well but I think I'd rather go late August/early September. Been spending a month or two in the AK interior almost every year for the last 30 years. Did the haul road once but never made it up the Dempster. Was in Dawson City the year of the road anniversay (25 years I think) but didn't have time to detour to Inuvik. Have several friends that did the Dempster but always late summer, never mid summer.
