Safety net for fold down bunk above dinette

The cabinet above my dinette folds down to a bunk that is capable of supporting a child up to 75 lbs. I would like to start using this area for my son. He's only 20 months old so I wanted to build or purchase some kind of safety net that is easily taken on and off so he can't accidentally fall out. Any suggestions? Does anyone else use the bunk?
  • Hello,
Go to West Marine site, www.wetmarine.com They have a canvas sidewall used in sailing boats,
This is what I have in my Adventurer 910fbs, fold down bunk above dinette with some large hooks,
    to hold the straps.
Or go to a canvas shop, and get one made to order.
    Good Luck, happy hunting!
  • Walmart on-line sells various rails that tuck under the mattress. Maybe one of them would the right size.

When i needed to do this, i used a wooden bunk ladder. I drill two 1" holes in the ladders rails and inserted a short length of pipe. I drilled a second set of holes near the edge of the fold down bunk to accept the pipes. The ladder was then horizontal and acted as a bedrail.
  • I bought a cargo net directly from Lance and it was fairly cheap. $50 or there abouts for all the hardware and could easily be used on any make. I also bought a door to replace the hole left by taking out the microwave, it fit perfect and again, was fairly inexpensive.

According to the 2002 Lance Manual available online at lancecamper.com/docs/02-owner-manual.pdf, it is called "luggage/child restraint system". They offered a "cargo net" option as well.

  • My Lance bunk came with a safety net. What brand of camper do you have?
