  • Do you drink your tank water? We bring jugs of spring water for drinking and making coffee. The only thing we use the tank water for is cleaning. The method in your link is what I do to sanitize my tank but the water will taste like bleach for several tanks of water there after. Hence, we just use it for washing and doing dishes.
  • That is exactly the way we do it. We usually do it twice a year. We drink it, cook with it, make coffee and tea from it.

Dave, we don't get a bleach taste after flusing it, so I'm not sure why you have to go through several tanks.
  • I put about 12 ounces of bleach into my water tank, fill it and run it through both faucets. I usually let sit for a day or two, then drain it out and fill it with fresh water, let it sit for a day or two also, then fill it again, adding baking soda to it, let that sit for 3 days, then flush and fill it again, no chlorine taste after that.

  • I follow the procedure in my Lance mannual
    1 Drain water system
2 Prepare a chlorine solution with 1 gallon of water and 1/4 cup of household bleach
3 Pour 1 gallon of solution for each 15 gallons of tank capacity
4 Fill tank with fresh water
5 Open each faucet and water heater relief valve until water flows evenly
6 Set pump switch to off
7 Allow solution to stand for 3 hours
8 Drain and flush with fresh water.
9 To remove any chlorine taste or oder ,fill tsnk 1 quart vinegar to 5 gallons of water . Allow solution to remain in tank for several days if possible.
10 Drain and flush with fresh water.

I flush twice at the end. No taste other than clean tasting not stale water. Once a year ,every spring.
  • I followed Lance's sanitize/flush procedure as well. There was no taste of bleach at all, but I can still smell glycol from winterizing even after a second flush. I have since filled the 5 gallon jug for drinking water...
