Fresh Water System Sanitizing & Treatment

Bleach first and a good rinse, then White Vinegar to remove any left over bleach. Been doing it this way since mid 70s. Never had any issues. Run all faucets with the bleach solution and flush clean water, then the vinegar same thing.

Do you have a mold or something or just being careful.

The key to no algae is to not leave standing water. Dump the tank after every use.

Why would anyone want to get rid of the algae in their fresh water tank? I've always been an advocate of using everything on an RV for multi-tasking. This is a perfect opportunity for you!

Algae needs sunlight (or other form of energy) to grow. Is your tank in the sun?

Most sanitize their system annually with bleach and maintain protection by use of city tap water which has chlorine/chloramine. Most don't use anything expensive/exotic and I have yet to read a thread where someone has gotten sick by using their water system.

The way I work my fresh water system is to fill my fresh tank and even when hooked to city water, leaving my water pump on. This keeps the holding tank fresh because I mix the city water with the holding tank water.

I sanitize with bleach once per year and flush, flush, flush to get rid of the bleach. I've never had an algae problem. Occasionally I'll add a few ounces of bleach mid-season and let it sit overnight before flushing again. I usually drain the tank when I get home from a trip, and put in about 10 or so gallons of fresh water before a trip just to have some for flushing the toilet and hand-washing along the way until we get to the campground.

Adding some baking soda to the water tank after sanitizing will remove any odors.
I also use an inline water filter when filling my tanks and on my Monaco coach I have another water filter under the kitchen sink for drinking water and for any water used in cooking.

There is certainly some truth to that.
I stored a fridge with a water dispenser tank full of water for 5 years. When it became time to use the fridge again I removed the little tank inside for cleaning. It was still full and spotlessly clean inside.

I do sanitize my FW tank every spring just to be safe.
