Sealant for Wall Seams

I have been doing significant work on my camper lately. As I have been working, I have noticed that there are areas that are cold and not sealed well. For example, the battery compartment is (under the dinette) plastic and attaches to the inside wall, but leaves a gap of about .5 to 1 inch all the way around it. Same with the propane tanks. Also noticed it is colder around those areas also. Here is my question, can foam spray be used to seal up those gaps? If so, I would seal the gaps and then use reflectix insulation on the walls around it?
  • I believe 54suds was referring to expansion type foam. You will find that foam in the window and door departments of your big box stores. The foam will expand until it touches something firm and then stop. Regular foam can push rather hard on things and can warp window and door frames thus the recommendation to use the limited expanding type of foam.
  • I checked the venting for the batteries and they must vent out of the exterior door. There is an opening at the top and bottom of the door jamb.

Have not had rodent issues (knock on wood). What is limited expansion tape?
  • Get the rodent proof spray foam. Be sure to place SS screen first to help stop mice from invading your space.
  • Spray foam works well but keep in mind that it likes to expand. Like life, it will find a way, regardless of what wall stands in front of it.
  • Spray foam works good. I've used it.

I don't like the "great stuff" brand because it's messy and turns rock hard.

    I use DAP brand.
  • that will work just fine, just make sure that the battery compartment has an outside vent if you are using anything besides a sealed AGM battery ( even then it should be vented).
