"Why do you need to carry the hose in the gutter? It looks like a cool tray but not I'm not really sure it is needed. By trying to save weight and cost couldn't you just slide the hose down the square tube?"
You certainly could do that. But the gutter weighs about a few ounces. To save that much weight I eat one half less donut... :-) And it cost under $10 for a 10' piece.
The gutter does two thing, keeps everything in place and east to get to without having to reach way down inside the tube, and it can be used as a bridge to support the hose while emptying. My truck is quite high and the outlet for the tank is 4' above ground.....
