Shasta Trailer

Hey all,

First post here. I'm looking at a newer Shasta travel trailer. It seems to be in very good condition, but a couple of questions. There seems to be some soft flooring in the front storage area, just a few inches in from the outer wall. Also, I got up and took a quick look at the roof and noticed it has something like a heavy vinyl roof that has a bit of squish to it all over. This seems to be normal, but how is the "vinyl" in terms of removing caulk, repairing, etc.

Finally, the windows are "frameless"--is that the right term? Look like just pieces of glass bolted to the trailer with a gasket in between. Any concerns in terms of maintenance there?

I'm coming from a pop up that we have currently, so this is a good bit more trailer--just trying to wrap my head around any potential issues.

    Thanks, Wayne. I definitely appreciate the advice.

    Am I up for a full floor repair? Nope. But this doesn't seem to be that. I guess I've been following a couple facebook groups and forums for different TTs, and it seems that so many folks are upset with the quality of their BRAND NEW units, its a bit disheartening. I'm not delusional that a TT requires some preventative maintenance and care, but like you mention I'm trying to avoid the *major* fixes that might be required.

    Hopefully you'll get a response from a Shasta owner as I really don't know how they are constructed. My comments are just based on general experience. You might get the best advice by inquiring of the manufacturer. They should know how that model is constructed. If you really want that trailer, it may come with a major fix job. Are you up for it?

    From what I've seen between owning pop ups and researching TTs, 100% quality control is a myth. Everything seems to have 1 or more issues. If the issue on this is just the 12"x4" spot in the storage I would imagine it's easily remedied unless that's a common issue with these specific trailers. These don't seem to be as common in general (newer Shastas) so I'm trying to do my research.

    The roof doesn't necessarily seem to be damaged, rather it seems there is almost some padding in between the vinyl and the actual roof. I should be able to walk on the roof no problem, right? If that's the case, I'll get up there during a further inspection and walk all over.

    Sounds like a water leak has ruined the wood in the storage area. Can you find a non-damaged trailer? The roof may be constructed with relatively thin plywood which flexes when walked on if it feels that way all over the roof.
