I understand that crime can happen anywhere, even in a high end gated community. All I am saying is that our odds of living crime free go way up by carefully choosing where we live, play and store our things.
I know that sometimes "the ghetto moves to where we are". That was effectively what happened where I was growing up....which is why I moved out. I have a brother that to this day refuses to move out of the old 'hood. Last winter some lowlifes broke into his basement garage and stole his snow blower. My comment to him was that it's way past time to move out to a better place. It was 39 years ago that I left the 'hood.
I'm in a place now with my camper for the winter. Yesterday, I needed to go get a propane tank filled, off property. I also wanted to go to a hiking trail while out, but decided leaving the propane tank unattended in the back of the truck was an invitation to theft. Instead I brought it back here, and made a separate trip to the hiking trail. And that's all I'm saying guys, that being aware of where we are will give us some pretty good hints as to how likely or unlikely we may be victimized.
Sorry to here you all are suffering losses of gear. This stuff ain't cheap, and it's a pain in the arse to have to replace things just because there are bums out there that decide it's easier to take from others rather than earn. For sure though this is nothing new. They have been highway robbers, and stagecoach thieves, etc, since the beginning of time.
