- samuraiownerExplorerah a picture IS worth a thousand words! i was thinking of getting happijac tie downs I see the torquelift has a much better angle. thanks Joe b. I 'll have to do some measuring to make sure they will clear my old fords fat fenders.
as far as building a box I was thinking of haveing the back the same width as the camper and the front the same width as the truck to create getter air flow and maybe a little better M.P.G. - joe_b_Explorer III have a short bed Lance 845 on a long bed Chevy and it works just fine. I built a plywood box to fit in the space, where we store the lawn chairs, any fire wood, tool box, extra water hose, 30 amp extension cord, axe, oils, filters, cleaners, etc. The handling is no difference as the center of gravity on the TC is the same whether on my previous short bed Dodge or the current long bed. The difference in bed length is in front of the rear wheels. Long beds have a longer wheel base. The rear axle is the same basic distance in from the rear of the bed.
We used it this summer for just over two months on the road to the mountain west and put about 6,500 miles on it. I am considering checking with some of the boat fiberglass fabrication shops in this area to see what they would charge to make me a more permanent box of some sort.
If I had it to do again, I would have the box come out over the bed rails on each side. Anything that I put on the floor in the box is not easy to get out, so my 12 volt air compressor, pair of bottle jacks, and other items I seldom have to use go down there. A extra 20 ft sewer hose (new) goes in the box as well. I have the doors on with 4 wing nuts on dowel screws. I have a set of hinges but haven't installed them yet and may not.
With the tie downs on the TC - DesertboyExplorerThere is a entire thread on this somewhere on here. Im still learning my way around also, But Im about to do the same thing. Just put something in there so it cant slide forward. Like a little Bobcat welder generator. Then you can pull up somewhere and go to work and sleep right there lol, May want to add a stealth muffler package.
- TraciKExplorerI was wondering if you could do that also. When I was looking for a tc I found several for short beds, not so many for long beds.
- SpeculariusExplorerD3500ram you are being paged.
He has a short bed TC on a long bed truck.
