OP, congrats, I think you made a great move. If this was a one-time trip I'd have been squarely in the camp of keeping what you have, but with many more long tows on the horizon, I think you made a wise choice.
If your kids are anything like mine, it won't take long before the F150 is a beloved family member too- new memories will line up next to the old ones.
When the frugal voice in your head pipes in (I deal with that too :W) remind it that you very well may have been putting money into your old truck due to the wear & tear of your trips...I doubt you'll be replacing the trans in your F150, yet it's a very real possibility you would've in your previous truck.
