Silly Newbie Question on Length

My trailer is called a 17cb the length of the box is 12 ft

As one who has traveled and camped quite a bit in the US and continues to do so I wouldn't disagree - compared to campsites here in the Ontario provincial park system sites in general in US state parks, county parks, COEs, national parks, etc, do tend to be less generous in size so using your rig's tip to tail length when choosing a site probably makes sense. That said, our NY state lakeside campsite for this weekend is big enough to easily accommodate the largest 5th ever built so parking our "20 footer" and truck will be a non-issue. :B

In the US you encounter the same thing. You are "shopping" for a site and the system quizzes you on your rig, length number of slides, etc, then uses that info to show you sites. These sites are rarely measured accurately. Put in minimal info and make the system show you all available sites, or go thru the drill of inputting the correct info, then you can switch to "available sites" further on and look at all of them.

The different systems are a confusing mess, some are downright difficult to use, some are easy.

A few parks do not allow you to overhang the gravel/pavement of the pad, most do not care, some have trees in the way, so you are limited on the overhang.

You're only confusing the OP with erroneous information :R - he's in Ontario and asking for info about campsites in our Ontario provincial park system. His trailer will easily fit on any site in the system other than terraced tent sites, for obvious reasons.

Not a silly question at all. In fact, it is a very important question. Find the overall length of your trailer and use that as your guide. With your size trailer, you should not have many problems finding campsites. When you get the 35 to 40 range in length, the number of available sites goes down, especially when dealing with what we call "State" campgrounds here in the States.

When booking sites, use the "real" length of the camper.... bumper to hitch! Not the bogus length the manufacturer says.

Yup, the “real” length. Adding five feet to the....real...box size is about right.

You're in Canada and because you're quoting the CAMIS reservation system I'm guessing Ontario, specifically our provincial park system. Ignore those recommending "up to 25' " and instead select "up to 18' " as that will offer the most available sites ... And yes, your trailer will fit, just as mine which measures 22' 6" coupler to bumper always easily fits. :)
