Tim, my RotoPax withstood direct sun and elevation changes as we explored 11 National Parks on the west coast.

When I bought Las Vegas house, the driveway slabs expanded and buckled up to the degree that car would hang on the joints.
Out of curiosity I took my infra-red and did some readings.
Weather stations this morning shows 100F.
-white trailer 135F
-Black trim 168F
Should get about 15F more by noon. What's gasoline boiling temperature?

2 years ago mine was in my trailer. (my prefered location IF I am towing a trailer).
Last year mine was on the front, inside a fiberglass box, secured well to the rack.

Its less exposed than the plastic fuel tank on my Jeep Liberty or a Ford Pinto.

I now flat tow a Jeep Liberty that has a rack on the back of the hitch (the hitch that was installed during a recall to protect the fuel tank). So this year I am thinking of switching and putting the fuel tank on the Liberty rack and moving the blue tank I was carrying on liberty rack to the front of the truck.
This will also improve air flow over the truck radiator going down the road (not that I have a problem but I do see a couple deg temp differences on hot days with box on rack on front of truck)

But than I will need to take box off liberty rack when I get to where I am going since I drive the liberty onto beach with fishing gear on rear rack.

I have no problem with a front rack and a generator. The gas can....I would sure hope it didn't leak. That would look like a flame thrower. Of course a gas can on the rear is out of sight and a perfect target for some millennial texting and driving.

We don't always bring a generator along with us on our trips, but when we do this is our setup. We carry everything on our Torklift lock and Load maximum security cargo tray.

My small no spill can is in a storage compartment. I also have a 2 1/2 gallon standard vented can that I carry between the ladder rungs and the back of the camper. It is 8 years and 80,000 miles old and I have never had an issue. On hot days I can smell a little odor of gas. If I drive up a few thousand feet in elevation, I also smell the gas. Again, I have not had an issue. Ideally I would like to use a no spill can but it will not fit.

Thanks for all the replies, I guess it will be the $$$$ rotopax because I'll be using it on a Rt.66 motorcycle trip later this year and just don't want fuel leaking all over a brand new bike. As far as some of the replies; I have good options ; my 7x14 bike trailer, a 60x30 front rack, but I don't always take these,and won't be on this trip.I don't know why but my gen. compartment has a propane line inside but also a sticker that says "Do not store combustible materials inside". My taillights on my '13 F 350 prevent me from hitting the 2 1/2" stops on my TC, so I use 9x6x4 cork yoga steps against truck bed, so I have a 4" cavity that I utilize here, I just use my grabber to pull things to where I can reach them from the side.I miss my doors to truck bed in our old TC for storage, but not the old L---e. I also carry my gen. on back seat of truck on occasions and have never had "fume" issues. I've also thought about the Coleman White gas can like e few suggested. I sometimes use the rack that you hang chairs from on rear ladder with a platform attached, just don't like gas cans sitting in the sun all day while driving. Thanks again, K Mac

I like the convenience of such can, but first - it will accumulate dust on spout. Than you use flexible spout to hold fuel under the pressure and those flexes are prone to cracks.
Then whole system of orings and spring valves does not give good prediction for reliability.
Might be good can around the house for use with chainsaw or lawnmower, but I don't think I would attach it to camper.
