Solar Firm Claims It Has An Electric 700-mile SUV

I'm not sure this has been posted yet. I couldn't find it in the search.

"The performance model will have a 200-kWh battery pack that could power the vehicle for 700-plus miles on a single charge. That'd be massively impressive, especially considering the vehicle's 7,700-pound weight. Triton says the base model will have a towing capacity of 15,400 pounds, while the performance model would bring that up to 26,000 pounds."

Here is some additional reading.

We are a two EV family. One for commuting and one for commuting and long road trips. Neither has efficiency/weight numbers close to those required to do what this one claims to do. Then again, maybe some new expensive tech. Our EVโ€™s are a fraction of the price of that thing. And saying that neither can tow what they say this one can tow. Itโ€™s a beast if it can do it. Tesla look out. More than double the price of a cybertruck though.

Just sayin.

Agreed, those numbers are awfully optimistic for just a 200 kw/h battery. It might tow 15K very well, but not very far! For comparison, a Tesla Model X towing a 3800 lb R-pod consumed between 600 and 1200 wh/mile. Real world numbers are preferable to manufacturer claims. IMO a heavy duty electric tow vehicle capable of pulling a 10K or more high profile trailer will need at least a 300 kw/h battery to have decent range.

700 real miles in that behemoth on 200 kWh? Not a chance.

BTW, how many batteries are in the truck?

My guess is one. Batteries are made up of many cells. Both of our EVโ€™s have only one battery...made up of many cells. Itโ€™s a terminology thing.

When they can put solar panels on the roof that can recharge that capability overnight, you can call me. Of course when thousands and thousands of owners of this rig plug in overnight and the whole region goes brownout, that will help too.

I think it's more of a another step in Photoshop vehicle development process. ๐Ÿ™‚ And, really, not very good Photoshop at that.

They don't mention mileage towing, but no doubt it will be less. Probably significantly so when towing at max loading. But it is another step up in the electric vehicle development process. It's coming folks! :C

I really hope it works out as it would be an incredible leap forward, but who in their right mind is going to tie up $140,000 for an undetermined amount of time. Given that they are only providing renderings, means that they are likely two or more years from having a working prototype and three to five from actually having a retail model. Thanks, but I think I'll keep my $140,000 invested (not that I'm going to spend that much on a vehicle in the first place).

Iโ€™m not ordering one unless it uses itโ€™s own proprietary exclusive plug to recharge.

Very impressive. The technology is coming. Only rich people would buy such a truck. When they cost $45k, then we can talk. I would be happy with 400 horsepower, and a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds.
