Gotta be careful. If the OP admits to having the TT in CA for longer than 30 days, or admits that he is a resident of CA, he would be at fault for fraud and would face a heavy fine. The OP hasn't stated which of the two states is his legal domicile.

I wonder if the buyer is claiming it was a gift instead of a sale? Not knowing CA's law for sure, I would suspect that a giftee would not have to pay sales tax if the giftor did.
